Normally transplant patient’s original heart does not left inside the body. But doctors had a thought ahead in Hannah Clark, a 12 year old girl’s case. The girl had enjoyed good health with the donor heart for 10 years.
In November, a cardiologist found that her body was rejecting the donor’s heart and restart her own. Her own heart recovering was wonderful news. That was the idea and it worked out.
The transplant team agreed to perform the complicated operation to remove girl’s donor heart. The procedure went so well that the girl was able to return home within five days.
Professor Peter Weissberg, medical director of the British Heart Foundation (BHF), hailed the outcome as an exciting and important event.
