Ageing regulatory gene found to check the growth of prostate cancer cells

A gene that regulates ageing process has been found to reduce the chances of prostate cancer. The researchers at the Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, are very excited with their new finding and are confident that the detection of this gene SIRT1, a member of a family of enzymes called sirtuins, may help them come out with firm solutions to curb the spread of prostate cancer.

This is the first study of its type that has come out revealing the link between sirtuins and prostate cancer. The detection of SIRT1 paves way for new findings that are quite essential for combating prostate cancer. Giving vent to the same view Dr. Pestell said, ‘This study shows that there is potentially new opportunity for these cancer patients with drugs that regulate SIRT1.’
