Violent video games stimulate high emotional activity: Study

Children playing violent video games are more likely to show increased activity in certain brain area responsible for controlling emotions and decreased activity in areas responsible for self-control. This conclusion has moved out of a new study that studied about 44 teens. One group from these teens was asked to play video games full of violence while other group of teems was asked to play video games free from violence and then their mental function was measured by using magnetic resonance imaging technique.

The words of Dr. Vincent Mathews, professor of radiology at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, and author of the study, well express the finding. He says, ‘What we showed is there is an increase in emotional arousal. The fight or flight response is activated after playing a violent video game.’

This study exposes the impact of playing or watching violent games or movies on brain, which I think may help psychologists understand psychological problems in a better way along with enabling them to come up with better solutions to such problems.
