Coumadin, also known as Warfarin is an anticoagulant that prevents and treats blood clots, heart attacks, and stroke. It is a blood-thinning medicine so you must pay attention to your diet when you are under Coumadin medication. Few food items reduce the effectiveness of this medicine. You must have a Coumadin Diet in order to attain maximum benefits from this medication.

The effectiveness of Coumadin reduces with the intake of vitamin K. You must eliminate or reduce intake of all those food items that are rich in vitamin K. Stop taking any Vitamin K supplements. You will require a greater level of Coumadin if you don’t reduce consumption Vitamin K.

Coumadin Diet

National Institutes of Health has recommended that an individual must keep a consistent intake of Vitamin K. You must not consume 1 serving per day of foods that contain vitamin K.

Vegetables Green leafy veggies such as kale, collard, mustard greens, parsley, Swiss chard, and spinach are rich in vitamin K. Reduce the intake of these vegetables. Brussels sprouts, avocado, asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, watercress, scallion, and endive are moderately rich in vitamin K. You may include them in your diet. The best veggies to consume are peppers, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, and carrots.

Fats and Beans
You can enjoy meals made from fish, canola, and soybean oils. Pistachio nuts and mayonnaise can also be consumed. These foods contain vitamin K in a moderate amount. On the other hand, mung beans, soybeans, lentils, and chickpeas are rich in vitamin K. You must reduce the intake of these food items.

Other Foods
Coumadin’s effectiveness can be affected due to excessive intake of green tea, cranberry juice, mango, alcohol, kiwi, and liver.

Note:
You must not stop eating these food items. The majority of the foods are prepared with the inclusion of these foods. You should maintain a consistent low quantity intake of the above-mentioned foods because these foods contain other beneficial nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
