Cosmetic producers use Britain as a testing lab

Britain being the hub of cosmetics is also a testing ground for the same. Cosmetic items meant for the U.S. are first tested in Britain and then travel to America. Quite surprising for me to think that the Americans are better placed than the Britons in the usage of a product that originates from Britain. What if the cosmetic product proves toxic during tests? Poor Britishers are merely scapegoats.

Because of stringent license rules in the U.S, any cosmetic product to make ground there has to pass tests in Britain because of poor regulation of cosmetic industry. The presence of 65 cosmetic fillers in Britain as compared to only seven in the U.S. gives credibility to this statement.

With the increasing number of customers of cosmetic products in Britain, it is difficult for the country to regulate new ones entering the market. And with the EU permitting only self-certification for the cosmetic companies, regulation becomes more difficult. British marked label helps the companies in getting export licensing to the U.S. and Canada with ease.

The experiment of new products on Britons making them guinea pigs for the U.S. venture, the cosmetic companies are putting them into health risk. Increasing media attention is yet to force government to go for a tangible and visible solution. Though, the talks of regulation of the cosmetic experiment procedure and ban on substances that harm human skin is going on, Britain unlike the rest of Europe is yet to come out with stringent norms to control the growth of white cosmetic trade.
