We all face hair problems at least once in our lifetime. There would hardly be anyone who would not have experienced some problem or the other with their hair. Hair problems make our hair look dull and lifeless, not to forget unmanageable. Hair of all type be it long, short, wavy, or straight, have certain issues that can completely ruin the appearance of hair, and in turn our look. Different people suffer different hair problems, and thus there are different solutions that need to be taken up. Read on to understand various hair problems, their causes, and treatments.

1. Premature gray hair

Graying of hair, before time, is one problem which majority of people suffer from. Gray hair makes you look older which in turn lowers your confidence level.

Cause

The hair gets its natural color from a pigment called melanin. Melanocytes are responsible for producing melanin. These melanocytes get damaged and are unable to produce melanin; thus the new hair growth lacks this pigments which results in gray hair.

Gray hair is also hereditary. If one of your parents have had premature graying of hair, you are likely to inherit that.

Treatment

Premature graying can be due to vitamin deficiencies and also smoking. Healthy diet can retain the natural color of your hair for a long time.

If you suffer from gray hair, you can dye your hair with a natural dye like henna or various good quality hair colors available in the market.

2. Hair loss

On an average a person tends to lose 100 hair per day. This is natural. But sometimes we experience continuous hair fall resulting in thinning of our hair scalp.

Cause

Hair fall can be due to aging. Certain drugs and diseases can also cause excess hair fall. Health conditions like thyroid, hormonal issues, autoimmune diseases, fungal infection on scalp, pregnancy, surgeries, etc can also lead to hair fall.

Treatment

In order to keep hair loss in control, stay away from artificial hair treatments like bleaching, perming, re-bonding, etc. Tying your hair very tightly as a ponytail or a bun can also result in hair fall.

In severe hair loss, you can opt for hair transplants which are a permanent solution or can wear a wig. You can also take certain medicines or apply hair oil, shampoo, or conditioner that slows down the rate of hair fall. A healthy diet can always ease the situation.

3. Hair damage

Damaged hair looks brittle and coarse. It also has split ends, which makes the hair look dull.

Cause

Excessive hair treatments and styling like blow-drying, straightening, highlighting, and perming can ruin your hair. Split ends and roughness are also outcome of over styling. Swimmers may also suffer from damaged hair due to high content of chlorine in water.

Treatment

Avoid using artificial hair styling methods frequently. You can limit them by once in a month or even two months. Allow your hair to be natural for some days to let it be free from any chemicals and hard stuff.

Avoid using things like hard comb, rough towel while drying, shampoos and conditioners with heavy chemicals and ingredients. Shampoo your hair every alternate days with a mild shampoo, preferably having natural herbs, followed by mild conditioning. While swimming, ensure to put your swimming cap.

You can also treat your damaged hair by using home remedy of applying white of an egg with honey every week. Take extra care of your strands and protect them from the harsh sunlight and cold winds. Oiling can also be very useful for controlling and reducing hair damage.

4. Greasy hair

Greasy hair can totally ruin your whole appearance. You are also forced to wash your hair many times.

Cause

Greasy hair is result of sebum which is produced by the scalp. Sebum is natural oil that makes the hair oily and unmanageable. It is produced by the sebaceous glands present on the scalp. The purpose of sebum is to keep the scalp lubricated but unfortunately at times this gland tends to produce excess sebum leading to greasy scalp.

Treatment

To control excess sebum, you should use a mild shampoo particularly which is meant for oily hair. You can also avoid putting hair oil too often.
