Bowel cancer more common in women, menopause is the main culprit!

According to Australian researchers, women are more likely to be engulfed by bowel cancer. After studying 1200 cases of bowel cancer researchers found that the percentage of women engulfed by the disease was higher than the percentage of men.

Researchers believe that the fundamental reason behind this is menopause. In the words of Dr. Ken Koo, a gastroenterologist with the Sydney South West Area Health Service:

This is indirect evidence that as oestrogen levels fall, a woman’s risk of dying from bowel cancer increases. It certainly adds to the view that oestrogen is protective against bowel cancer

So it means after 50 women should take special care of their health and should keep on consulting doctor regularly.
