Bird Flu Hits Two Russian Poultry Farms

Now its turn for the birdflu to hit Russia. Two poultry farms in southern Russia’s Dagestan republic, near Chechnya, have been hit by birdflu. It is from January 15 to February 1, 350,000 bird deaths were registered at the Eldama poultry farm, in Karabudakhkent District, the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare said.

76,000 bird deaths are reported in the Makhachkalinskaya farm in the village of Shamkhal, and 120,000 birds were culled between February 6 and 8. Lab analyses of blood samples had revealed the dangerous H5N1 virus, the service said. According to a report by RIA Novosti news agency, the farm has been quarantined with its staff undergoing medical examinations.
