Apple diet worth a go?

I am 38 years old and self-employed. In recent years I have put on some extra weight. My whole family is insisting me on to cut down some weight. My son has seen from somewhere about this 3 apple a day diet. He says its good for me and doesnot require much time. Is he right? I want to know about the apple diet from you. Has anybody else done it before? What’s its method like for the beginners like me?
