Antibiotic treatment for kids may cause asthma

Antibiotic treatment during the early years may double the risk of asthma by the age of eighteen. This study is published in journal Chest. Researchers are not sure who is to blame, the antibiotics or children’s infection following by the requirement of antibiotics.

The researchers looked at the number of occasions infants treated with antibiotics and the risk of developing asthma. They saw the risk raised for each of the additional course of antibiotics.

According to the researchers, ‘hygiene hypotheses’ may disturb the children’s immune systems to develop properly. At the same time, the study does not declare that to keep away the kids from antibiotics when necessary. The parents should be aware about the diseases where antibiotics not needed.
