Cervical cancer is the most common type of cancer in developing countries. It kills almost 100 thousand women every year in Africa.
Yves Bergevin, the senior Africa program adviser for reproductive health at the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), says about the preventive measures for cervical cancer. He said about three strategies.
The first strategy is the ‘ABC’ approach:
‘A‘ means ‘Abstinence‘ that is delaying the first sexual encounter
‘B‘ means ‘Being faithful‘ to one partner
‘C‘ means ‘Comprehensive Condom use‘
The second strategy is early test, detection and treatment
The third strategy is a very new vaccine. It has got approval in the United States. It prevents from the virus that causes cervical cancer.
