1. Cleansing

Cleansing your skin regularly is very important for all skin types- sensitive, oily or dry. You can do it with any cleanser provided you do not have an allergic reaction to it. With so many varieties of cleansers available in the market, it is impossible for you to not find one that suits your skin. Ideally you should do a skin cleansing process both in the morning and in the evening, especially if you wear make up. The cleansing ritual cleans the pores in the skin from all the excess oil, waste matter and dust and the number of times you need to cleanse your skin depends on your skin type. For example, those prone to oily skin should do it at least thrice a day. Use cleansing lotions that have natural plant extracts would clean as well as nourish the skin equally. Plain oils or even jojoba oil can be used to gently wipe down your skin. Concentrate more on the eye area as it is more sensitive and requires extra care. Also try and stay away from soaps as much as possible, as they are generally harsh on the skin and can only make matters worse.

2. Toning

Skin toning is the process that comes after cleansing and is equally important for both men and women. This protective step keeps the skin healthy and breathing and more receptive to the nourishing care that comes at later stages. The toning lotion also removes all the the residue that the soap or cleansing cream that leaves behind on your skin. Ideally, using a top skin toner that is chemical free is the best for the skin. As mentioned before, the use of soap and other harsh cleansing products can leave a detergent film behind which can irritate and harm your skin, making it difficult for the toning process to take effect. Other than the fact that toning keeps the skin pores clean, it also helps improve and refresh the blood circulation that aids in bringing back the youth glow to skin.

3. Exfoliation

Every three weeks or so the skin forms a new layer of younger cells eager to come through. Which is why skin exfoliation is a must. It is process by which you scrub off the top layer of dead skin cells using various methods, which in turn would help in bringing back that special glow to your face. Exfoliation also helps in removing any dirt that have been harnessing your skin and also has detoxifying effect on your skin. You could opt for a gentle scrub with small grains or even follow natural methods so that there is no use of chemicals. A mix of oatmeal and mashed grapefruit applied to your face can do the trick of attaining a more fresh, healthier and even younger look in time.

4. Moisturize

Moisturizing your skin is probably the most important step that helps in making your skin look fresh. Regardless of your skin type, you should make it a point to apply a moisturiser to your skin on a regular basis to get a smooth and attractive skin. The only exception to this rule is if you have skin that is prone to acne. Then again, avoiding a moisturizer altogether would not help. Go for one meant for oily skin or get the advice of a dermatologist who can measure the level or skin sebum and elasticity and recommend accordingly. Keeping your skin moist also helps in making it more soft and pliable and increases hydration by reducing evaporation. Remember, over doing the moisturization process can also cause damage by clogging pores. So know your skin type and requirements and apply accordingly.

5. Massage

A good massage does wonders to your skin. After applying the moisturizer, stimulate the facial muscles with gentle moves of your fingers. Start from the lower part of the face and make your way up from the center of the face and also moving outwards. If you can do this twice a day, nothing like it, but doing it once just before hitting the sack works fine.

6. Sunscreen

It is a known fact that excessive sun exposure causes a lot of skin related issues like freckles, wrinkles, spots and the most deadly of all skin cancer. Avoiding sun exposure as much as possible is ideal to maintain fresh looking skin. But, obviously as it is impossible, you might as well figure out ways to reduce damage caused by the harsh sun. Protect your skin from the sun rays by applying a sunscreen that is suitable for your skin. Also avoid staying outdoors between 10am and 4pm and wear a hat whenever possible.

7. No smoking and healthy diet

Above all, a healthy diet plays a significant role in maintaining good skin conditions. Include lots of colorful fruits and vegetables in your diet, along with food rich in vitamin B complex like lean meat, dark green vegetables, fish, poultry, whole grains and mushrooms. Other than these, almonds, walnuts, fish liver oil, flax seed, etc., which are high in omega 3 fatty acids, must be consumed adequately to help maintain fresh and healthy skin. Stay away from smoking as it not only damages your health but affects skin drastically by reducing blood flow to the top layers of the skin thereby making it dull and lifeless.
