A last minute beauty disaster is the worst nightmare for anyone, regardless of whether you are going for that all-important date, walking the ramp, or going for a job interview. In a world where social acceptance and success are inextricably linked with appearance and looking good, these quick fixes can save you in those emergency situations. We have put together a list of 5 quick beauty tips.

1. Quick repair for puffy and tired eyes

Puffy eyes appear when your body doesn’t get enough rest and hydration. A late night or a heavy party dinner, or too much of alcoholic beverages can lead to puffy eyes. While the obvious remedy is to prevent these from being on your agenda just before you have a big day, sometimes, it may not be possible. Two surefire methods of fixing puffy eyes is by using a cucumber eye mask or a tea bag eye mask. Take a cup of boiling hot water and soak two tea bags in it (green tea is better than black tea for this purpose, but black tea will also work) for a couple of minutes. Drain the tea out and take the bags and place them in the refrigerator to cool. Once they are chilled, lie down and place them over your closed eyes for about five minutes. Your puffiness will be reduced. Another method is to use slices of cucumber and place them over your closed eyes for a few minutes. You can also crush the cucumber into a paste, apply it on to cotton pads, and place the cotton pads over your eyes.

2. Banish those pimples back to nowhere

Pimples have a way of showing up just when you don’t want them to. One of the oldest and most popular emergency fixes for a pimple is good old fashioned toothpaste. Apply a dab of toothpaste over the pimple, taking care not to apply it on the skin surrounding it. Apply it before you go to sleep and wash it off in the morning. You will find that the redness has reduced and the swelling too. Another trick that works is crushed aspirin. Take an aspirin tablet and crush it into a powder. Mix it into a paste with a little water. Apply this on your pimples before bed and you will find that the swelling and the redness have almost disappeared the next day. Keep in mind that skin sensitivities differ from person to person, and it is possible that your skin might not be suitable to some chemicals. If you notice any irritation or skin changes, discontinue the treatment immediately.

3. Don’t let your oily skin reflect camera flash

For people who have oily skin, an outing that lasts longer than an hour or two can turn into an embarrassing situation. One way of preventing this is to use mineral based loose powder on your forehead and nose region. Use oil-free cosmetics so that they don’t add to the natural oils that your face will be secreting. Look for cosmetics that include willow bark and zinc oxide in its ingredients. If your moisturizer is an oil-based one, replace it with an oil-free one. Carry a pack of face tissues with you. Every hour or so, slip into the restroom and use them to dab up any excessive oil secretion on your forehead and nose.

4. Concealer to cover up blemishes and pimples

You can use a concealer to effectively make those blemishes and pimples disappear. You can use it first and then apply foundation, or you can apply it over foundation. Choose a shade that matches your skin tone. Apply it evenly so that it doesn’t show up when you smile or stretch your facial skin for speaking or eating. Apply some translucent powder over it with a brush in order to make it set nicely. Avoid over-applying concealer as it can look layered and cakey.

5. Use distraction to your advantage

Whether it is a pimple or a dark circle around your eyes, an effective method of addressing it is to use the technique of distraction. Wear you hair in an unusual style, or put on an accessory in your hair that will take the attention away from the area where you have a beauty emergency. You can also consider other tricks of distraction like chunky jewelry, bold eye makeup, or unusual colors and contrasts in your dressing. Experiment with metallic shades and shocking colors.
