10 Tips to control your food cravings

Many people love eating. And in today’s globalized world, every kind of food is available at any place. Burgers and pizzas have replaced the traditional breakfast of chapatis or dosa or idli. This has also increased the obesity level.

But people have started to get conscious of their health and their lives and are trying to control the food they eat. There are many gyms and weight loss centers which assist people in weight loss. This certainly helps in loosing weight. But after the weight loss, it is very easy to gain back the weight, as the temptations are very high. Even during the weight loss, there is always the chance that the temptation returns. For a person who is going through weight loss, it is very essential to keep the cravings under control. This article is about some tips which can help you to control your craving for you favorite food.

1. Avoid the triggers

Initially, the craving rate is so high that any small reminder of your favorite food triggers off your old cravings and you end up over eating. Start off by in taking supplementary, dietary beverages. This helps in lowering your cravings. Once you make sure to avoid the foods, which give you the trigger, it is less certain that you get back your cravings. Switch your diet to fresh fruits.

2. Destroy your temptations

Sometimes out of temptations, you may buy chocolates or some of cookies. Then, make sure you either give it away or just flush it down. This gives you a sense of final accomplishment! Don’t think of the money, health wise you are saving a lot more once you loose your weight. It is true that calorie food is costlier that fruits or low fat food.

3. Eat nuts

There will be sometimes when your craving for food will be strong. At that time have some water. And then eat some nuts like peanuts, almonds and walnuts. This will reduce all your cravings, kill your appetite and will change your entire body chemistry. You would stop getting your cravings!

4. Drink coffee

Caffeine helps you to distract yourself from indulging. Instead of reaching for a bar of candy, have a skim latte. The warmness of this coffee makes you feel satisfied and reduces your cravings.

5. Relax

Killing your cravings can take a while. So just chill and try some distractions. Sometimes, stress can lead to craving. But once you have decided your diet, learn to follow it strictly as you would be saving a hundred calories in a day. Use some relaxation music in order to calm you down. It is always easier to go on a diet with some one else. Convince a friend or your partner to follow the diet with you or join the gym with you.

6. Try a power nap

Usually, you get your cravings back when you are tired. So have some non fat snack like fruit, if at all you are hungry and then go to sleep. This will help you to get refreshed and also helps you over come your cravings.

7. Eat mint

Consume mint once in a while (sugarless) as it helps you to focus on other things. Usually when people brush their teeth after a meal, they mostly don’t eat unless it is the time for the next meal. So brushing helps you from snacking.

8. Keep yourself distracted

Craving for any food like ice creams or chocolates will not last longer than ten minutes. So at that time, try to distract yourself. Listen to some music or call some one. Once you distract your mind, your craving disappears and then you don’t even feel guilty of indulging.

9. Don’t deprive yourself

Do not deprive yourself! Once in a while indulge, but only within a limit. For instance, do not buy an entire bar, just buy a small chocolate or take a small piece from a big bar and be certain to work out more hard the next day. Take small quantities of your craving food one at a time and don’t do it too regular.

10. Avoid temptations

Temptations creep in when we are around a bakery or a pizza outlet. It occurs when you are en-route. Take a detour and avoid travelling in front of it. Ask a companion to travel with you and plan different fun routes daily. Even during the journey, keep the mind occupied with music or radio.
