Nokia has finally announced a successor to the successful, high end, N95 cellphone, in the new Nokia N96 to be released sometime around August of this year. Though it still looks like a brick, it is little more pleasant this time around with some nice rounded edges, more like the N81. The N95 itself was one mighty, fully loaded device, so for the N96 to succeed it, it needs to pack some real punch. And not surprisingly, it does so with a humongous 16GB built in flash memory which puts it bang in the iPhone territory. And if that is humongous, what about a memory expandability to 32 gigs. WOW. And all that with a micro SD slot which takes flash memory. Hard disks are soon going to be dinosaurs with flash memory becoming so cheap, so soon. That can hold almost 40 hours of video and over 3000 MP3 songs which make it a very complete digital entertainment phone. MP3 and media players will soon become passe. A very nice touch is the attached kickstand which lets you view video’s handsfree. And the N96, is a phone after all and it comes with a nice 2.8 inch screen with all the phone features of the N95 with high speed connectivity with HSDPA with one major change. WLAN finally comes on Nokia’s in the N96. And as in the N95, A-GPS also stays. The camera retains the Carl-Zeiss 5 megapixel resolution with flash and video light. To top it all off, the N95 also get Geo-tagging like the latest Sony Ericsson cybershot phones. That is one loaded device and when it comes out, it will be priced at around 550 euro’s. The price in euro’s because, the N96 will be first available in Europe and UK.
