BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930

Blackberry has been in its “blues” due to plummeting sales of its phones, which were once revered by the corporate honchos and admired by the rest. Somehow, Blackberry seemed to have missed the revolution that happened in the mobile industry. Blackberry phones are now considered as outdated, monolithic phones, not good enough to meet the aspirations and demands of the end users. As a result, large part of Blackberry audience flocked to Android, which offers better app integration and performance. RIM has been aware of this and had been working extensively to bring out new set of phones that would stand tall in current cut-throat competition and would meet the needs of end user. Bold 9900 and 9930 are two new avatars from Blackberry that are packed with high-end hardware, brand new BlackBerry 7 OS and better app integration.

New design

Blackberry Bold 9900/9930 had a major revamp in terms of design that offers the advantages of its renowned QWERTY keyboard with a high-resolution capacitive touchscreen. The keypad is more responsive and offers five percent more surface area that would help you text with comfort. It is the slimmest phone from Blackberry as of yet with the overall thickness of 10.5 mm and a premium metal wraparound. The phone feels sturdy enough to hold in the hand with sleek and stylish looks.

Upgraded hardware

Hardware has been upgraded to 1.2 GHz processor, 8GB of on-board memory (expandable to 32 GB), and HSPA+ connectivity. It has a 2.8-inch high-resolution touchscreen offering a resolution of 640×480. Blackberry has introduced with these phones a graphics processor called Liquid Graphics that promises higher performance and 24-bit color. The technology helps in delivering a more responsive touch experience. A 5-megapixel camera sitting in the rear records at 720p with image stabilization feature that gives sharp and well saturated images. The dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) help in transferring large amounts of data quickly with better connectivity. Another feature that Blackberry has come up with is NFC (Near Field Communication) technology that helps you to get connected with other NF-enabled devices with a single tap.

New OS

It comes with a more powerful OS from Blackberry itself, the BlackBerry 7 OS, which promises 40 percent faster speed over its predecessor Blackberry 6. The new OS comes with some unique features such as Blackberry’s custom enhanced web browser and voice-activated Universal Search. The Universal Search is speech-to-text translator, which scraps the need to go to buttons every time you need your phone to search for a song or contact. You just talk to your phone and it automatically searches for the file. The 7 OS is a huge transformation in terms of touch-sensitivity and social networking.

Social Networking Integration

The phone comes with integrated Twitter and Facebook apps and Blackberry Messenger 6. Messenger 6 has been integrated into a number of applications and offers superior chatting experience. Integration of Messenger 6 to business applications is a great advantage.

Blackberry Balance Technology

Blackberry doesn’t want to restrict itself to enterprise users and its answer to this need is its “balance” technology. The technology doesn’t compromise with the security while accessing any business information, allowing you to access Facebook, twitter or personal email accounts at the same time. It helps in interleaving personal and business information and doesn’t restricts you from having fun at work.

Documents to Go

Documents to Go is a powerful premium app from Blackberry that allows you to create Word, Excel and Power Point docs on the go, as well as in viewing PDF files.

Blackberry Bold 9900/9930 aims to revive its line of smartphones by offering more advanced features to the end users-a more responsive touchscreen, a snappy OS, power-packed hardware and more useful apps designed to meet your personal as well as business needs. Meanwhile, Blackberry is also working on QNX operating system, which is expected to be released early this year and would offer a more formidable competition to the iPhone and Android-powered devices.
