Electric cars are the future of vehicle bazaar and when it comes to supercars, being electric may be splendid. The Rimac Concept_One is Mate Rimac’s masterpiece that has won him some big awards. The car can achieve a top speed of 305kph and can accelerate from zero to 100 in just 2.8 seconds, isn’t it a remarkable achievement?
Mate Rimac gave the first glimpse of his electric powered supercar at Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011. With a horsepower of 1018, the car will be able to go faster than the Bugatti Veyron and travel up to 600 kilometers with a single charge. An immense motor torque of 1600 Nm and battery capacity of 92 kWh makes the vehicle outstanding and puts her above all other cars.
Mate Rimac’s inspiration to make this electric powered supercar came from his two passions combined. One is technology and the other is cars. Rimac, while he was in high school bought a BMW for €1000 and modified it with some new parts, he made it electric by putting in the motors and other electrical parts and soon was also able to set a new world record for fastest accelerating car in the world (the fastest quarter mile by an electric vehicle). In addition, he has five different world records to his name with the same car. With the help of designer Adriano Mudri he began working on the Concept_One.
The Concept_One has a drive system where each wheel is driven separately. The tires are specially built for high-performance functions and are designed by Giugiaro in collaboration with Vredestein’s Ultrac Vorti series. The car is two-seater and is expected to go into production in 2014.
Different from a normal electric car in every perspective the Concept_One has stylish looks and a very high speed. The automotive industry is positive that the company might be able to make the car as they have dreamt of but some car manufacturers say that the figures are imaginary. Still the humankind is in the hope that the car goes on sale.
