We have had smart computers and smartphones, then why should televisions lag behind? Amidst all the competition between television giants like Panasonic, Sony and Samsung, along comes a little known company, Vu technologies with its range of smart TVs which are to say the least, very impressive. Enough said, let’s review the VU’s new and exciting 55 inch Super TV.

What is it?

A smart TV essentially integrates internet connectivity into a television and converges several technologies of a computer and a TV. Vu’s Super TV does all that and much more! What sets it apart from most of it’s competitors is it’s 3D rendering capabilities. At first look, you are left gasping at the size. At 55 inches, it certainly brings your living room to life!

Key features

Vu’s Super TV is a full LED back-lit HD 3D TV with internet connectivity. It comes in an impressive 1920 x 1800 resolution. It has an Intel core i3 processor with 2GB of RAM and 500GB of hard disk space. Also comes with Windows 7 preloaded. Priced at Rs. 1,49,990, it certainly doesn’t come cheap, but when you consider smart TVs of Panasonic or Sony, Vu’s Smart TV does not put a big hole your pocket.

The up side

The first plus point, and one which strikes upfront is its design. With an elegant clear glass border and a four legged chrome plated stand, this smart TV is literally paper thin. The smart design includes touch sensitive buttons on the lower left corner which are highly responsive to touch. Four HDMI ports, two USB ports, one VGA port and SCART ports allow the user to connect an array of devices to the TV. Great picture quality and 3D capability is a high point. Browsing the internet on a 55 inch screen using a wireless keyboard is exciting.

The down side

Though the 3D glasses which come with the TV are superior to the ones in the market, it is heavy and bulky, and wearing them continuously for a long time is uncomfortable. Though conversion of 2D to 3D is innovative, sometimes it fails to impress. Add to that the scarcity of 3D content in the market. The sound quality does not match up to that of other TVs. Buying a 3D TV is not enough. Along with it you require a Bluray disc player, which again will cost a lot.

Our experience

This smart TV has certainly blown us off our feet in several areas. Easy internet connectivity and an immersive 3D experience have earned pluses in our books. Apart from some issues with the stereo sound and the bulkiness of the 3D glasses, this 55 inch beauty is faultless.

The bottomline

With the market for smart TVs being in the nascent stage, Vu’s 55 inch Super TV will be considered as a pioneer of its kind. Rubbing shoulders with greats like Sony and Panasonic and keeping its own itself says a lot. Rich in features and costing a bit less than its peers, this smart TV is turning a lot of heads. But you need to ask yourself, are you ready to invest in a brand which is quite new to the stage or will you prefer the established and tested ones. Then again, will you play it safe and wait for the competition to separate the winners from the imitators!

Weighing all the ups and downs, the Vu 55 inch Super TV is certainly a good purchase!
