i,cir Audio Player also doubles up as digital art

The iPod may have revolutionized the way we interact with our music, but not everyone wants to carry their music collection around with them all the time and not everyone is a fan of ear- and head-phones either. There are people who still like to hear their music the old fashioned way, i.e., via speakers. However, the modern day obsession with making everything more interactive means that a regular set of wood-enclosed box speakers don’t just cut it with the music fanatics these days. This is where a brand new concept like Szemin Ho’s i,cir music player concept comes in. The i,cir bypasses the regular trappings of traditional audio systems and forces users to think outside the box on what a music player can look and feel like.

The number one complain that most people have with traditional audio players is their size and the fact that they often require users to install a whole entertainment center or wall-mounted shelving to house them. The i,cir addresses this particular problem and comes with a simple wall-mounted interface that takes up the same amount of space on your wall as a medium sized clock does. Replacing the conventional bulky design of audio players, the i,cir fits in more conveniently with the décor scheme of smaller living spaces as well.

The music player, though petite, still offers the most dramatic surround sound experience and does not require a host of speakers and other accessories to do so. The sound produced by the i,cir audio player envelopes the listener in a way that cannot be achieved with multiple-piece audio systems. Since the audio system uses a single outlet for outputting sound, the integrity of the soundtrack being played also remains intact because it is not split into different streams and channeled through to different set of speakers.

The interface of the i,cir audio system is also designed to allow top-of-the-line touchscreen interactivity to the user. With the menu designed to function much like the touchscreen display of most smartphones, the interface of the i,cir would be simple to understand and interact with for most people. The interface, when idle, would display animated visualizations (like Windows Media Player) and the menu would be accessible by a single touch anywhere on the display. This allows the music player to also serve as a piece of digital art when it is not being used as a music player.

Fitted with sensors, the speakers of the i,cir can be separated and placed in different rooms at the same time. When the i,cir is in idle mode in an empty room and a person walks into that room, the player will automatically activate and a preset track would be played.
