Grow with Dr Prem

Designed by Dr Poh Ser, Hsu VTF-15H Subwoofer was first sold in 1991. The structure was tall, and more or less like a tube. It was made of concrete pillars, along with some cylindrical shaped tubes which were made up of fiberboard, with their walls being resistant to flexure and strong. Though the designer subwoofers are available from other manufacturers also, but Hsu is more conventional and far better than others. Not only size but VTF-15H Subwoofer is different from others in all features. Some of which are appearance, shape, ease of use and attractive price too. Here we share a brief review of the same. Please have a look:

Features

Some of the unique features include 15 inch driver powered by 350 watt BASH amp, adjustable Q, Triangular ports with removable foam plugs, Two EQ settings, Line and Speaker level inputs and 25x18x26 in 118 lb.

The VTF-15H is a big and muscular subwoofer which consists of 15 inch driver and BASH amplifier of high efficiency rated at 350 watt to 1400 watt. The heavy stiff enclosure makes its weight 118 pounds and offers tweaking possibilities. It is difficult to accommodate the bulk subwoofer in a large room but hardcore audio enthusiast makes no concession to their lifestyle. Though the connections are typical but level inputs are also provided to combat the hardships.

To adjust the Q setting is measurable but the frequency response gets affected extremely, except in bottom half of the bass octave. The effect is hardly noticeable at about 100 Hz however it gets stronger at lower frequencies. It is measured with the help of both ports plugged in the EQ1 setting. It is the highest Q setting delivered at 20 Hz.

High points

Some of the unique features of VTF 15H are including integrated triangular ports, hybrid operations and variable Q controls including both sealed and ported modes. This is one of the most flexible woofers between Q control and EQ choices and operating modes as it offers virtually to any audiophile’s preferences. Bass of this subwoofer is very tight while Q control can be set. It is 15 inch woofer with Q very low around 0.25. The integrated flare triangular ports allow users to get biggest possible port for each subwoofer. This apart, it looks refreshing, stylish and unique, so it is most preferable.

Low points

The VTF 15 H subwoofer equipped with 15 inch long throw driver and 350 watt amplifier a self powered and front loaded controls to allow tweaking of bottom end and low pass cross over into your room. It is weighing around 123lb and costs around $879 for the black finish and preferences of listening. The output is surprising because of strongest engineering and excellent integration of cabinet and power amp. Its is a glaring example of what you attempt to squeeze and what else can be done to last bit of performances.

Price

MRP is $879 as tested (black finish) and $ 999 (rosenut finish)

(7 years warranty on woofer, 2 years on amplifier, 30 days satisfaction guarantee)

It is a smart styling and comes in manageable size. It is not very expensive for performance capabilities. The output is reasonable high without high power. The port is interesting in design making maximum use of internal volume. The Q control is also provided for controlling fine tuning bottom end of woofer. It is a narrow cabinet profile containing the most volume in the cabinet depth subwoofer.
