Few years back, there was only one option, CRT or cathode ray tube based monitor, for TVs and computers. These have become obsolete now and you have the luxury of choosing monitors containing a wide array of features and technology such as TFT (thin film transistor), LCD (liquid crystal display), LED (light emitting diode), OLED (organic LED), HD (high definition), DLP (digital light processing), projection monitor, etc. With each new technology, the picture or video transmission on the monitor became sharper, crispier, and more vibrant. This article is an attempt to throw light on five such latest trends in monitor design and their features.

Today’s hardcore gamers are able to get great gaming experience if they can afford this display beast. In addition, it can be used in other applications such as 3D modeling and video editing; with its high resolution, every detail of a video or a picture can be captured smoothly. It has increased the viewing range with its curved surface and the dynamic range with the help of WGXA resolution (32:10 aspect ratio). This monitor is also able to cover 100 percent RGB color and 99.3 percent of ADOBE RGB color. The only issue with this monitor is its high price tag that comes at $7999.

2. Samsung SyncMaster 2263DX 22” dual multimedia LCD display

You often think of having more than one monitor so that you have the option of doing two different tasks simultaneously. If on one monitor, you open several programs then the workspace is hampered and the screen looks cluttered. To solve this problem, Samsung has manufactured a 22-inch widescreen monitor with a 7-inch small screen attached to it. Therefore, while the user is busy doing some important tasks, he/she can also get track of his personal mails, or some other not so important work through the small 7-inch monitor. The extra screen can be positioned as per the user’s choice and comfort level by using a rotating swing arm. It can be placed in the left, right, or top of the monitor, in either landscape or portrait orientation. The main 22-inch monitor produces images or videos at 8000:1 contrast ratio with 1680 x 1050 resolution. The smaller screen has a response time of 30ms and has a resolution of 800 x 600. The small monitor is attached with the main monitor by USB 2.0 cable, and the set up has a 3.0 MP web camera for video conferencing.
