10 apps that convert iPhone into a guitar

Guitar apps for iPhone are being promoted in the market for guitar players. The iPhone apps are freebase approved with easy interface to create music or to learn the play modes. If there are any that we have missed out from our list, you can always let us know. The list will be up dated for new and improved apps for guitar, whenever they are released in the iPhone App Stores. Here is our list of the best so far.

1. OmniTuner

This is a real microphone based, versatile chromatic guitar tuner for different instruments. It is compatible with iPod, iPod touch and iPhone and priced at $5.99. It can tune stringed instruments such as a mandolin, bass guitar, ukelele and many others. It displays note accuracy; note frequency played and is a hands free, easy to use interface. There are Analogue pitch meters and LED and has a manual tuner module with a built in custom tuning editor.

2. FourTrack for iPhone

This is from Sonoma Wire Works for recording music anywhere and is ideal for musicians and songwriters. By sliding the record button to the right, lyrics is belted out and it can be stopped as well with the button. While recording one music, you can listen to the other three, with its clever interface in this four track recorder. Music can be uploaded to any computer in WAV format in five minutes as it has a compatible Wi-Fi. It is priced at $10.

3. Fretboard Trainer

This is a tool which repeatedly prompts and assists the user in finding and identifying notes on the guitar fretboard and is applicable with iPod Touch and iPhone. It comes with a customizable game profiles, optional sound, fretboard explorer, right and left handed fretboard, full screen or scrollable fretboard with customizable alternate tunings. It is priced at $2.99.

4. Seven Chords

This app uses clear and understandable tab notation from the fingering chart of your guitar book and is a comprehensive guitar chords library. Containing more than 1500 of the most common guitar chords, both for the acoustic or electrical guitars, the Seven Chords dictionary is unlimited. To listen on your iPhone you simply have to tap or double tap the chord. These are available at the Apple app stores.

It has over 500,000 chords library and is an accurate tuner for the iPod Touch or iPhone. It has standard and alternate tunings for instruments like the Banjo, mandolin and many others, with direct support for 6 or 12 string guitar and bass strings of 4, 5 and 6. It has 13 sound effects with 12 time signatures, and a precisely visible flash option accurate metronome with temp tap pad. There is a chord finder which tells you exactly the note you have touched on the fretboard. It has scales reference in alternate and standard tunings and supports lefty mode by adjusting scales and chords to reflect an instrument played left handed. It uses the iPhone microphone as a highly accurate chromatic tuner.

6. Steel guitar

This is from Yonac Software and is a free app for the time being. There is a choice between the Eight-String Console, lap steel, traditional Texas or Nashville set ups. There is a manual Pro mode to play a slide bar and notes are bend when you move the iPhone. There is also a reverb in the steel guitar which produces fat echo music, an accelerometer which is configurable with the virtual volume pedal.

7. Groove maker

This is from IKMultimedia and is a free app with over 120 loops of samples which allows you to create electronic remixes on 8 available tracks. It has a built in sequencer which enables you to practice grooves or tap tempos from 78 to 125 bpm, which can be transferred to your PC or Mac through wi-fi.

8. Guitar Jam Tracks

This is the perfect set for learning major modes or practicing certain scales. This set had seven tracks, one in each of the major modes and in the C key. There is a metronome reading for each track and pointers on how to use the scales over different progression chords. It is priced at $9.97.

9. Guitar Studio

It helps you to focus on music making easily and quickly. With any combination of melody and chords this is an easy interface you can play with great 6 sound acoustic guitars, customizable chords, selectable sting labels for scales, supports left handed guitarist with a built in SoundCloud. You can download songs from other users with multiple pages of buttons for songs and combined scales and chords which can be saved as songs. There is a slow down or speed up performance after recording with a built in music player and has iPod library of imported tracks to play along. It is priced at $4.99.
