Why going green is good for your children

going green is good for your children

Our children are our future. Here is why they should learn early to contribute to a greener planet.

Fun and useful

Making sure your home is properly sealed and insulated is a good way to encourage green living in the kids. Sealing and insulating your home helps you to save money while taking constructive and sustainable actions. It can also be a enjoyable and educational project for the whole family. Share and discuss on how you can go green. Have the children suggest other green acts they think the family could take.

Green transport to encourage healthy living in kids

Walking is another excellent way to do your part to create a greener planet, and having healthy kids in exchange. Combining trips or walking to do an errand whenever possible can do wonders for your health  and that of the kids and the health of the planet. Walking leaves out no dangerous emissions, saves energy and is a free, fun way to get some exercise. If you have safe sidewalks in your neighborhood , take the children for a walk with you. You will be encouraging your children to develop healthy habits. Walking is truly the perfect activity.  It is amazing for the mind, for the body and for the soul – and for our Earth as well.

Recycling and Reusing- a healthy exercise for the brain

Several activities are there to teach children how to recycle and reuse material. Give the kids a pair of work gloves and set them sorting out the family trash and putting the right types of recyclables in the right bins.

Make the kids go through some of the items you’ve set aside for recycling, and ask them to use their creativity on how they can reuse each item. Give them ideas or help them make a plastic bottle that can be made into a bird feeder or glass jars can be used for storing jewelry or craft items.
