Making its way into the Design It: Shelter Competition is the Waste-Pickers Shelter. This waste container is one of the ten finalists who have made it to the interactive, online challenge that had participants hailing in from 68 countries. The container collects almost one tenth of the daily waste produced by 18,000 families of recyclers in Bogota.
The Waste-Pickers Shelter is a garbage collector that consists of four barrel shaped boxes in corrugated metal that behaves like a waste container and an easy-to-pull diclycle making it convenient to work and move. The reflective painted barrel is expandable giving protection while storing the waste. Designer Alexander Nino Ruiz has paid his share to the environment with this innovative design.
