Three eco-buildings make it to five shortlisted for Leeds Architecture Awards 2009

Leeds, the metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England, touts tons of architectural masterpieces. While most of them are plainly urban, you could see some flauntingly green buildings asking for appraisal. The city’s top architects did the same in shortlisting five of them for the prestigious Leeds Architecture Awards 2009.

Hailed as the Horsforth’s landmark building, the Parish Center cost around £400,000 and makes it to the list thanks to its new extension. The eco-friendly building has ground-source hot water for under-floor heating and washing. There’s also an underground rainwater harvesting tank for toilets. The recycled glass bottles take care of thermal insulation.
