The Big Debate: Eco-xenophobia may debar the so-called alien species from Britain

britains extinct species

Clearly, the UK masses, conservationists, thinkers and the government as well find themselves in a strange situation where they can’t sensibly spot the evildoers. Are these the alien or the native species that cause damage to native flora and fauna and spread diseases? Where the environmentalists are content in blaming both, the government seems to be biased in blaming the former i.e. the alien species like gray squirrels, rhodendrons, parakeets, Japanese knotweed, muntjac deer and others, for inflicted damages. Accordingly, it is developing into a sort of Eco-xenophobia.

I’ve coined the term ‘Eco-xenophobia’ to stress the idea that we are making judgments not through objectively supported science but through mistaken ideas of what is native, what is alien, and hence what is good or bad.

It is a better perspective and seems to be the most unbiased one as proposed by Ian Rotherham, Director of the Environmental Change Research Unit at Sheffield Hallam University. Whether the government would also think along the same lines or will it just keep pushing the so-called alien species toward obliteration, we need to wait and see.

As of now, the situation is grim beyond any justification.
