A new green complex will soon house students in Florida. Dinerstein Companies is on its way to open a new complex called “Sterling Central” in August 2010. Located across from UCF on Alafaya Trail, the eco-friendly structure will be LEED-certified with the most energy-efficient air conditioning units, Energy Star appliances, compact fluorescent lighting and dual-flush toilets that reduce water usage.

Sterling Central will be constructed using earth-friendly materials. The apartments are expected to be 21 percent more energy efficient than conventional construction projects and at least 75 percent of construction materials used will be recycled. Several sustainable finishes like eco-friendly sealant, adhesive, coating, low-emitting paints and carpet made from recycled material are used to ensure a healthy environment for the residents.

The first green complex at UCF will consist of two four-story, fully furnished residential buildings with 763 beds available in one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments. The buildings will also have attached parking garage with multiple elevators to provide the residents with the facility to go straight to their floor from the garage. There is special room for activity-related amenities such as a two-story fitness center, two resort-style pool plazas, computer centers, private study rooms, a tanning salon and a cyber cafe.

Sterling Central has collaborated with Intellectual Decisions on Environmental Awareness Solutions at UCF to help promote green living. I.D.E.A.S. is a proactive student nonprofit organization that was formed in order to inspire and promote environmental sustainability on campus.
