Oberthur Technologies introduces the world’s first patented eco-friendly SIM card called the EcoSIM. Being only half the size of a regular SIM, it naturally brings the use of plastic down by 50%. Since recycled paper, PEFC, and FSC certified materials are utilized in fabricating these SIM cards, it not only reduces the overall carbon footprint for transport but also ensures that the overall waste through environmentally friendly packaging goes down.
The production procedure efficiently reduces the carbon emissions generated per card from 16 to 8 grams. Moreover, the company, also the world’s second largest provider of Smart Card based solutions, has supplied over 10 million cards to mobile network operators worldwide via its patented process that considers printing of two SIM cards on a single sheet of plastic. Oberthur Technologies further wishes to let the world be aware of its EcoSIM at stand 3G001 at the CARTES & Identification exhibition from November 17 – 19th in Paris.
