Ever wondered where cellphone towers get their power from? Well, mostly coal or other costly on-the-grid sources are used to do the job. Helix Wind Corporation, a global renewable energy company, is all set to provide cost-effective renewable energy solutions to telecommunication companies across the US and Africa, which will help in reducing the CO2 impact. The company will employ its vertical turbines that will supply the towers with energy.
Helix’s wind turbines seem to be an ideal solution, lowering the costs of operating expenses associated with cellphone towers. These non-noisy power makers are capable of generating enough power to pay for themselves within a period of six months. The first test turbines will be delivered to telecom company Eltek NSG in Nigeria by the end of October. If the testing proves to be a success, then Helix could think of implementing it in other African nations too.
