Color trends for interiors 2014

  • Blue – As predicted earlier, Blue indeed was the trend this year but it came in all shades. Whether it was light blue, teal or turquoise we saw a lot of blues being used in the interiors of homes, especially living rooms. The reason perhaps for this color’s popularity is the touch of coolness it adds to any room. People also combined a lot of earthly and watery hues with blue this year to add texture. Darker shades of blue like Indigo which bordered on purple were also popular for an accent in the bedrooms.
  • Green – Green has always been popular in homes especially in the bedroom owing to its relaxed soothing effect. Green also found its way to the living room as a moss-green with earthly undertones. Wheat-greens were used to add happy feeling to a room while shades of clover were used to create accents. You can work with green just anywhere and in any room owing to which shades of green almost bordering on yellow, which had a happy feel about it found its way into kids bedrooms and kitchens. Muted greens were also to be found in the dining halls.
  • Gray – We also saw a lot of gray in 2014 whether it be the all gray look or colors which had gray undertones . In order to create more depth people glazed it or whitewashed it to add more texture. It went perfectly with other colors like rose, gray-blue and also provided a perfect contrast color.
  • Yellow – Yellow has found popularity with a lot of people in the past few years owing to the feel-good happy quality that it adds to any room and the people in it. A lot of people used it to create accents on their walls as also in their accessories. However, sunny overtones were replaced with slightly muted hues of green-yellow.
  • Pink – Pink is not just a feminine color anymore and more and more people used it during 2014. Shades of fuchsia found its way into bedrooms and living rooms with a stool or a chair , a wall-hanging or a rug. And it was all done beautifully against gray and white shades of colors.
