Just a few days back I introduced you to Apple’s patent application relating to home energy management, this time I bring to you another application by the company. The Patently Apple site revealed that Apple has applied for a patent relating to powering electronic devices using integrated solar cells. Dubbed the ‘Power Management Circuitry and Solar Cells’, the application relating to solar-powered gadgets though was introduced in 2008, but was officially unveiled on Thursday.
This is not the first patent application relating to solar-powered gadgets for Apple. The company in October 2006 also filed an application related to solar-powered gadgets, which was called ‘Solar Cells on Portable Devices’. The 2006 patent application used a solar panel with a transparent solar cell and was capable of powering small devices like iPod. The recent patent application deals powering electronics using multiple solar cells on the device itself.
