What's pushing young adults to Ecstasy and LSD use?

ecstasy leads to marked memory loss

Addiction to drugs or taking hallucination-triggering Ecstasy and LSD at least once is a thrill and challenge for most youth, especially in the US. Do you know, an estimated 20.2 million U.S. residents aged 12 and older used LSD at least once in their lifetime?

Although, it does not produce compulsive drug-seeking behavior as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine do, the LSD’s hallucinogens are thrilling for many youths and its higher use may lead to long-lasting psychoses, such as schizophrenia or even severe depression!

What is worrying scientists is the increasing trend of illicit drug-intake or the use of ecstasy and LSD among young adults, the rate of which remained stable last year.

The overall drug use trends are found to be dangerously encouraging, particularly for the youth. Aging between 12 and 17, about 9.8 percent of Americans acknowledged the use of drug in the past month – a level comparably higher to the year before!

Unemployment may be behind this increasing trend! – as the rate of drug use is much higher among the unemployed than those working – its 18.5 percent to 8.8 percent ration.

But, if it is because of the drugs’ easy availability or desire to fall into the ‘trend of the age’ or unemployment, is yet to be found.
