How to Wash Your Eyes with Water

Eyes are the most sensitive parts of human body and any small particle can affect them. In your daily chores, you deal with various things which may affect your eyes. Sand, dust due, pepper and other small particles often get into your eyes and cause a lot of discomfort. It’s always good to wear glasses in working environment and in traffic. Eyes have a property of producing tears to flush out the unwanted things. But, sometimes this is just not enough. You need to wash your eyes with water to get rid of the unwanted particles that cause irritation in eyes. Here are some techniques that will help you do that.

  1. A cup of lukewarm water
  2. An eye sized cup
  3. A very wide bowl
  4. A clean cloth
  5. Table salt
  6. Eye cleaning drops (optional)

Instructions:

1. Go for a well lit place

  • First find a place which is well lit with a mirror like a bathroom or wash basin etc. This helps you remove the particles carefully.
  • To make sure that your hands are clean, rinse your hands thoroughly with antiseptic soap or antibacterial soap. Also, make sure that there is no soap left on your hand because soap causes burning sensation in eyes.

2. Using a wide bowl

  • Find a bowl which has a very wide opening so that you can fit your face in it.
  • Fill the bowl with lukewarm water. Too hot or too cold water may hurt your eyes. So, make sure of temperature of water. Fill the water to 2-3 inches below the base so that water doesn’t overflow when you keep your face in it.
  • Now dip your face in the water. Blink several times and rotate your eye in circular pattern.

3. Using a eye sized cup

  • Find a cup that is perfect to the size of your eye and fill it with lukewarm water.
  • Tie a towel around your neck to help yourself from getting wet from spilling water.
  • Now slowly tilt your head onto the cup, hold the cup against the eye and then tilt your head again such that your eye (and cup) faces upwards.
  • Blink the eye several times and rotate your eyeball.

4. Using a cloth

  • Many people feel very uncomfortable to get water in their eye. For those people, this method is strongly recommended.
  • Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add a pinch of salt (usually 1 teaspoon).
  • Now take a clean cloth, dip it in water and dab against your eye.
