Vision Care

Vision is one of nature’s best gifts to humankind. It is important to care for one’s eyes, one of the most vital sense organs of the human body. This complex sense organ is taken for granted despite knowing its importance. Eyes have a default function of optimizing vision under changing light conditions. Since it is an external sense organ, it is vulnerable to strain, infections and foreign bodies.

Difficulty Level: Easy

1. Cotton wool
2. Plain water
3. Rose water
4. Castor oil
5. Tea solution

2. Add 2-3 drops of Castor oil to rose water. Dip a pad of cotton wool in this mixture. Then place these soaked pads on the eyelids for 15-20 minutes and relax. It reduces eye burning.
3. Make a weak and very light tea solution. Strain it and cool it for 2-3 minutes. Then splash eyes with this water.
4. Dip cotton pads in a solution of cold tea for an hour and place it on the eyelids for 10-15 minutes and relax.

Quick Remedies

For dark circles:
Grate 3 pieces of cucumber. Extract the juice by squeezing it through a muslin cloth. Dip 2 cotton pads in this juice for 2 minutes. Place it on the eyelids and darkened areas for 15 minutes and relax. Repeat this for 2 to 3 days for best results.

For eyestrain:
1. People working with computers need to take a break after every half hour of continuous work. The eyes need to relax after looking at the bright monitor screen. Look at any distant object and blink for some time. The eyes regain focus after this exercise.
2. While working on the computer, there is a tendency to stare at the screen. This leads to dryness in the eyes. Blink at least 10-15 times in a minute.
3. Frequent exercises also help. These exercises could be as simple as blinking a couple of times, rolling the eyes clockwise and counter-clockwise while keeping the eyes closed. While exercising, one also needs to pay attention to one’s breathing. Breathing must be slow and relaxed.

For deep sunken eyes:
1. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 1/2 teaspoon of almond oil. Apply this mixture on the eyes gently before going to bed. Repeat the procedure for a week.
2. Mix 5 peeled almonds soaked overnight with a glass of milk and drink it in the morning. Alternatively the almonds could be chewed as well. Results are assured after 21 days.

Things To Watch Out For
1. Visit a doctor immediately if there is redness, irritation or pain in the eye that persists for long or leads to any change in vision.
2. Avoid rubbing the eyes if any small foreign objects like sand, sawdust or metal shavings enter the eye. It should be immediately flushed with cold or lukewarm water. If the irritation persists, consult an eye specialist immediately.
3. An immediate visit to the emergency department in a hospital is necessary for any impact such as being hit in the eye giving it a strange appearance or bleeding, changes or loss of vision.
