Taboo leaving moms mum on discussing 'baby worry'

taboo stops pregnant women revealing baby worries

Depression during pregnancy is every woman’s fear and experience at one point of their life. Worry is perhaps the ‘dark underbelly’ of parenthood — the flip side of joy, pride, and fulfillment.

With the challenge of finding the optimal degree of worry, to let you protect your child without relieving you of your sanity, each day many would-be-moms and moms of new born visit clinics with complains of either depression or baby worries.

But these days, admitting about baby worries growing to be ‘taboo topics’ are increasingly preventing them from sharing their concern! Be it fear ranging from money to food or work and love life, 90 percent of expectant mothers suffer stress.

Shocked and concerned about the potentially serious implications of the widespread taboo concerns, Andrew Shennan, professor of obstetrics for Tommy’s, said

Suppressing concerns during pregnancy can contribute to the development of pre-natal depression, which can be damaging to both mother and baby. It is vital that we reassure pregnant women that it is OK to feel confused and uncertain during pregnancy.

According to a UK survey, one in five women fear they may not love their baby including their tendency to develop postnatal depression and a loss of sex drive as well.

But, researchers are importantly and largely worried about the ‘bottling up’ of baby worries – which could eventually harm both a mother and her child.

So, would-be-moms don’t think twice about discussing your worries out with your doctor. After all, stress — particularly around the time of conception and in early pregnancy – Can increase your risk of premature labor!
