Study: 14 million Americans are visually impaired

In a first national survey, since mid 1970s, conducted by National Institutes of Health (NIH) in U.S., concluded on vision problems. It finds that 94 percent of Americans of more than 12 years of age have good vision. The other six percent i.e. 14 million are visually impaired including 11 million have uncorrected visual impairment. They need eyeglasses to improve their vision.

This study is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. It confirms that uncorrected visual impairment is a major public health problem. The government should make some efforts to cure this problem. The report says that it is an important public health issue with implications for safety and quality of life.
