Sports – You could have fun and get in shape too!

Anything that’s monotonous is boring and it’s true with the workout routine too. If you are one of those people who find running on the treadmill or a stationary bike boring, it’s likely that you’ll be finding excuses for giving up this activity. Give this boring routine a break and jazz up your fitness program.

Get into the groove by indulging yourself in a sporting activity you enjoy every day and see your waistlines whittle away! It has another advantage too; you get to socialize and keep up with your old chums or make new ones.

If you are someone who enjoys team spirit, then you could get into Basketball, Soccer, Hockey, Cricket, Water Polo or Ice hockey. The key here is to get involved in the game of course, and not just be a spectator in the team.

If you think individual sport gives you the adrenaline rush, then you could consider Tennis, Badminton, Karate or Golf. During a one-hour game of tennis you can burn as many calories as you would if you’d spent the same amount of time jogging. Badminton is another great sport for all-round fitness.

Since all sporting activities are injury prone, you must also spend about 15-20 minutes on core-strengthening and flexibility exercises before the game. Whether it’s the treadmill or a sport, you get to see faster and better results when you watch your calories in your diet.

The bottom line, is it’s fun. We preach exercise, yet you must enjoy it or you will not be compliant in the long term. If you really love to play hockey, tennis or basketball, it’s a wonderful way to exercise.

says Dr. Michael Stuart, CMO of USA Hockey.

C’mon, be a sport; stop finding excuses and have fun!
