Spicy foods are the next weapon against cancer

In a recent research, scientists have found that spicy food can help fight cancer cells. The capsaicin, an ingredient of jalapeno peppers, helps to kill the carcinogenic cancer-causing cells. These cells are killed by attacking mitochondria, live center of the cell.

Most of us love spicy and tangy flavors in our daily recipes. So eat spicy food and prevent risk of cancer.

The Nottingham University studies feature in biochemical and biophysical research communications. This study showed that the family of molecules to which capsaicin belongs, the vanilloids, bind the protein molecule to the host cells which lead to death of these cancer causing cells without harming the healthy nearby cells.

Lead researcher Dr Timothy Bates said:

Capsaicin, for example, is already found in treatments for muscle strain and psoriasis – which raises the question of whether an adapted topical treatment could be used to treat certain types of skin cancer.

People who eat spicy food are at less risk of having cancer or those who are suffering from cancer can fight this disease by adding spicy foods to their diet.

Capsaicin was recently used in topical ointments to relieve pain of peripheral neuropathy. It may be used in small concentrations as increased dose may burn the surface.

It’s pleasing to hear that the spicy foods can be “extremely significant” in the fight against cancer.
