RU486 abortion pill will be obtainable in far north Queensland from next month. Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved to import 40 tablets from New Zealand. It will be prescribed with medical direction.
Cairns doctor Professor Caroline de Costa is said to be an authorized prescriber of the drug. She says,
very small number of patients fulfill the regulation of Queensland law and the TGA rules. We will use it for women with serious medical conditions such as continuing pregnancy poses a serious threat to their life. I am convinced that pharmaceutical companies will possibly import the drug.
