Roche provides H5N1 drug to WHO

The H5N1 has killed 110 people and infected 196 in 42 countries in Asia, Europe and some parts of Africa. Roche given 3 million courses of Tamiflu to the WHO. It will be distributed in these countries by WHO.

Sublicenses for production granted to China and India also. It follows criticism on the ground of availability of the resource to make a flu pandemic.

Roche promised the WHO another 2 million courses. It will be sent to form strategic stockpiles in the likely affected regions. Roche is expecting $945.6 million in sales of Tamiflu to governments all over the world in 2006.
