Road crashes cause huge problem for global health

Motorisation has improved the lives of many individuals and societies, at the same time it is necessary to make road traffic injuries as a public health priority. A review published in the Lancet has exposed the massive trouble of road traffic injuries in various countries.

The number of lives lost in road crashes in developed countries has decreased in recent decades. On the other hand, the burden of road traffic injury is rising radically in other part of the globe. According to the World Bank, during the next 20 years the global road death toll will increase by 66 percent.

The review identifies some road user groups, mainly pedestrians and two-wheeler users are greatly numbered among crash victims worldwide. The strategies for safer people, safer roads and safer vehicles have shown success in reducing fatalities and casualties in developed nations. There is a need to concentrate on the developing nations too where motorization is increasing with greater risk rate.
