Home remedies to cure sunburn

Sunlight is good for skin, but overexposure has its own consequences. Over exposure and even frequent exposure to sunlight compels the skin to produce more melanin, which gives color to the skin. Melanin being dark in color imparts a similar texture to the skin, thus, making it darker. Such condition caused due to overexposure is termed as skin tanning, which is caused due to the ultraviolet radiations present in the sunrays. This damage to the skin can be both short term and long term depending upon the precaution and remedies taken as well as the severity of damage.

The best way to avoid such exposure to sun is simple precautions that should be ideally made a part of daily routine. Sunrays of morning and evening are good for health as well as skin. It prevents the deficiency of vitamins D and K and the diseases related to this particular vitamin. Use sunscreen every time you step out in the sun and before swimming. However, if your skin has darkened due to over exposure to sunrays, need not to worry as we have some simple home remedies to cure sunburn. Let’s have a look.

1. Scrub.Scrub

Scrub is the first and foremost thing one should try after sunburn. Scrub has the ability to remove immediate tan and also removes the dead skin tissues. However, if there is redness or rash, then one should refrain from using scrub. Once you are done with it, apply milk on the face to soothe the skin as it is a great source of vitamin E.

2. Face masksFace masks

Good face masks also help in fighting sunburns for they soothe skin and provide the skin with essential vitamins to bring it back to normal. Here are some face packs one can make at home to treat sunburn.

a. Ground meal

Prepare a paste with half cup of yogurt and 3 tablespoons of ground meals. Mix them well and apply gently over face. After a while, rub it off slowly to wash the face.

b. OatmealOatmeal

Take two tablespoons of oatmeal and mix it with ripe papaya (half cup). Prepare a paste and add a drop of honey to it. Apply it to the face and wash it off after 20 minutes.

c. HoneyHoney

Mix honey and lime juice in a 2:1 proportion. Apply the solution over the face to wash it off after 20 minutes.

d. TurmericTurmeric

For a regular usage, add pinch of turmeric with yogurt. Apply over the body parts that get exposed the most and wash it off after 30 minutes.

e. CucumberCucumber

Mix equal quantities of lime juice and cucumber and apply regularly on the aforesaid areas for 20 minutes.

f. YogurtYogurt

A mixture of cucumber pulp and yogurt is also very beneficial for the skin.

The above mentioned home remedies are been used since ages to eradicate the consequences of sunburn.
