Tumors can be encountered using protons in a radiation, thereby, giving dilute side effects. Due to its high cost, few hospitals can be able to afford the equipment to create high energy protons beam.
But now to make wide use of proton therapy, MA Still River Systems working with MIT physicists are to develop a small proton accelerator to be available at a low cost.
The machine to be developed aims at advancement in magnet technology for energizing protons will hit the hospitals by 2008 for therapeutic use.
Protons to be used in the machine can reduce the risk of damaging healthy tissues. Moreover, can easily be fitted in patient’s room due to its small size feature and can be handled with ease by untrained staff also.
