Premature babies may develop hyperactivity disorder later

Premature babies are at three times more risk to develop hyperactive behavior than normal babies are. According to the Danish researchers, babies born at 34 to 36 weeks have an eighty percent bigger risk of hyperkinetic disorder (HKD) than full-term infants do. The symptoms of HKD and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are low attention span and impulsiveness.

The connection between prematurely and behavioral problems and hyperactivity is established. But this research has showed that the problem does not relate with just very premature babies. The study is published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood. It called for an urgent want of further study into the causes of premature birth. On the other hand, the researchers said that ninety percent of the babies those developed HKD were boys of age group two to eighteen.
