PET and CT scan work better in treating cancer, when together

To get more accurate radiation dose in the delivery of radiation treatment in the case of head and neck cancer, the combining images derived from positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT scan) will be more helpful now.

The International Journal of Radiation Oncology, the official journal of ASTRO has published this study.

The study illustrates that the fusion of PET/CT can appreciably improves treatment planning for radiation therapy. It will help patients with head and neck cancer who receive radiation therapy. This will also cause fewer side effects .It decreases the possibility of including adjoining tissues that do not have microscopic tumor cells in the high dose treatment volume.
