Lack of sleep influences your decision making

Where is the time to sleep when you have only twenty four hours in a day to leave a mark in this competitive world, to socialize and keep up with your high paced lifestyle? There is so much work to be done and so little time to complete that we tend to postpone sleep by a few hours which gets accumulated resulting in sleep deprivation. We all know the effects of sleep deprivation. Lack of sleep could not only result in fatigue and stress but could also influence your decision making in critical conditions.

Taking snap decisions could be difficult for people who are sleep deprived according to a study. This is especially important for professionals like doctors, firemen, soldiers where they need to take quick decisions in an emergency.
Neil Stanley of the British Sleep Society says

We know that being tired impairs judgement generally. This work suggests it affects moral judgement too.

The study was conducted on a group of soldiers who were given test situations and were asked to react on them. Soldiers who were sleep deprived found it difficult to make decisions. The results showed that when sleep deprived, individuals appeared to be slower in their deliberations about moral personal dilemmas and wavered in making their judgements.

Have a good night’s sleep if you have to make better decisions.
