Is longer sleep linked to shorter life span?

Sorry to say but if you spend more than eight hours sleeping in your bed then your chances of passing away sooner are somewhat higher.

Actually, a new study by Daniel Kripke of the University of California and others have found that people who were spending more than eight hours in their beds they were 12 per cent more likely to within six years than those who got 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours sleep.

However, this study has been engulfed by controversy as some researchers have come forward declaring this study full of flaws. To vindicate prop their point criticizers say:

Participants were not randomly selected, the study relied on their recollections and did not ask if they took naps, and it did not look at the quality of their sleep or whether they felt drowsy all day.

Reasons given by the critics against this study seem quite convincing. Moreover, we cannot forget that studied conducted on this issue has propounded sleep good for our health. Therefore, I believe that there should be further study on this issue so that facts that are more concrete may come to the surface.
