How to stay active during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a golden period in a woman’s life. The feeling of a would-be-mom is beyond description. As a pregnant lady, all that you need is to focus on, is eating healthy, caring for the baby in the womb and most important is staying healthy and fit.

While there are many reasons to eat healthy and gaining the suggested weight, it is equally important that you maintain good health and keep yourself active. Staying active is not only important for you and your baby’s health but it has also proved to increase the chances of natural birth.

Staying active during pregnancy

Pregnancy has different phases and you need to understand that each phase has its own problems to face. Along with that, your shape and size will be different in each phase and you have to take care of yourself at all times. It is important that you take medical advice from your doctor regarding the various activities and exercises that you can perform in each phase. In case, there is any other medical or pregnancy related problem, seek advice from your doctor regarding the same beforehand.

Some of the tips for staying active during pregnancy are:

  • Make sure you do not plan the activities completely empty stomach and drink plenty of water before and after the exercise. Carry a water bottle and take water in between to avoid dehydration.
  • Plan activities that you can easily and safely follow as a routine. You can choose to take a walk or dance. You can prefer doing this with your partner or a friend.
  • Exercises can be planned according to your capacity and your previous fitness practices. Strengthening exercises can be helpful to keep your muscles and body tissues supple and strong.
  • Breathe freely while exercising and take fresh air when possible. You can also practice breathing exercises and meditation. This will provide good oxygenation as well as help in reducing your stress.
  • Practicing yoga is also a good option and the specific exercises can also be learnt from a yoga expert.
  • Apart from this, you can stay active by taking up light work at home. You can engage in light cleaning work, watering the plants, taking care of the kitchen and some simple activities that do not require much laborious effort, bending or lifting.

Avoid strenuous activities and exercise like weights or heavy floor exercises. Avoid holding breath while exercising. Wear comfortable clothes and avoid rigorous exercises or activities that increase the risk of falling.
