How to remove skin tags

Acrochordons, or cutaneous skin tags as they are more commonly known, are nothing but harmless benign tumors which are usually present on our skin in the form of protruding flaps. Why they appear is still unknown, but it is often observed that they occur on those areas of the skin which are hot, moist or either more frequently rubbed. Hence they are usually observed to occur under the arms, on the region inside the thigh, around the neck or on the upper chest. While some people are totally okay with the presence of these skin tags, some do not like its presence. There is nothing wrong in removing them either; however, certain precautions must be exercised during their removal.

Instructions
The most important direction before embarking on removing the skin tag is to ensure that the skin tag is not a malignant tumor. Skin tags that grow rapidly and consistently and change color and shape with regularity are usually malignant in nature. So seeking out a dermatologist is the wisest step, if your skin tag exhibits any such feature. Following are three natural remedies which have over a period of time proven to be both effective as well as bath-safe:

1. Use of Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil, an essential oil is known to be extracted from the plant Melaleuca Alternifolia. Well-known for its prowess in curing skin diseases, removing skin tags using tea tree oil is very simple. Wash the area where the skin tag is present with soap and water and let this then dry out. Next, put three drops of tea tree oil on a cotton ball soaked in water and rub this cotton ball against the skin tag. Continue with this activity about three times a day until the skin tag falls off.

2. Use of Dermisil
Dermisil is a popular herbal medicine that is extracted from the three plants: Thuja Occidentalis, Ricinus Communis and Melaleuca Alternifolia. These three plants are well-known for their healing effects from many severe dermal conditions and the resultant extract is commonly used to remove skin tags as well.

3. Use of castor oil
For those believing in the medicinal properties of castor oil, it is recommended to prepare a paste of castor oil with baking soda. This paste can then be applied to the skin tags in a bid to remove them.

A few more ways to remove skin tags
• Cover skin tags with fingernail polish about three times a day. Continue with this for a couple of days and the skin tag will soon fall off.
• Tying a thin string such as dental floss or fishing line at the base of a skin tag for a couple of days also aids in the skin tag falling off.
• For those wanting to try something unique, how about duct-tape! Cover the skin tag with a duct-tape that is big enough to cover it in entirety. Leave it taped on until the skin tag starts loosening up. Periodically even check if there is any progress. Repeat the procedure until the skin tag comes off along with the duct-tape.
• Another home remedy involves putting vitamin E on a band aid and taping it to the skin tag. The skin tag along with the band aid usually falls off within a couple of days.
• Just as in duct-tapes, compound w freeze can also be used to remove skin tags.
• For those impatient to last through the above mentioned methods which take time, there is a method that is forceful and faster. Use nail clippers or scissors to cut off the skin tag. However, extreme care should be taken before venturing for this method. Liberal amount of alcohol in addition to a disinfected instrument is a must so as to prevent infections.

Things to watch out for
Bear in mind before doing anything on your own, that the most effective way for removing skin tags is visiting a doctor who would either freeze the skin tag or just clip it off. No doubt it is absolutely painless and highly effective, but then it does come at a hefty cost as well.
