Foods You Can Consume While on a Paleo Diet

Different Paleo diet designers have different opinions, some include particular foods while others substitute them. Here is a list of foods that majority of the Paleo dieticians would agree with.

Why go on a Paleo diet?

The advocates of a Paleo diet believe that the foods that we consume today result in inflammation inside the body. The foods of the modern day man were not meant to be consumed. Our ancestors were hunters and gatherers, even today our body will remain healthy if we consume the Paleo diet.

What are the advantages of consuming a Paleo diet?

By reading the list of advantages, you will be pretty impressed. Here goes, the diet reduces risk of health issues like blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, weight, diseases of the intestine, a couple of cancers, allergies and more. In addition to this, the diet is known to increase energy levels, boost overall immunity, reduce depression and result in a peaceful sleep.

Foods that are approved for a Paleo diet

There are a variety of foods under these five categories that you can consume while following a Paleo diet. These are fruits, vegetables, meats, nuts, and fats or oils.

  • Fruits

Depending upon your requirements you can take up to three servings of fruits in a day. More is not recommended and there is a cap on the quantity. Fruits contain fructose, the natural sugar, consuming excess of sugar in any way is not good for health.

Diabetics can limit the size of a single serving as well, a dietician can help in identifying fruits that have lesser amount of fructose. Some of the fruits are apples, avocados, blueberries, guava, lemon, oranges, peaches, pineapples and more.

  • Vegetables

If you consider legumes and beans as vegetables, then these are the ones that are not allowed to be consumed in a Paleo diet. Else all vegetables are allowed, for example mushrooms, asparagus, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumber, garlic, onions, pumpkin, spinach and more.

  • Nuts

Apart from peanuts, which are technically legumes, all nuts may be consumed. Like, walnuts, almonds, pine nuts, hazelnuts, cashews and more.

  • Fats

Olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil and macadamia oil are the approved oils that one can use in a Paleo diet. Fats are not bad for health, of course till the time they are consumed in moderation.

  • Meats

All sorts of unprocessed and fresh meats are approved for the Paleo diet. Some examples are bacon, buffalo, chicken, beef, goat, lamb, pork, fish, crab and more.

These are some of the foods that are approved for the caveman diet, the crux is to avoid dairy, grains and of course the processed foods.
